Does StatesCard support 3D Secure?

3D Secure is an important security measure used by certain sellers to verify the owner of the card being used to pay. For example, when making payments to Amazon in the US they may check the card is legitimate using 3D Secure in the background during the payment.

StatesCard fully supports making payments that require 3D Secure authentication.

Our cards fully support 3D Secure when making purchases, you may be prompted to enter a verification code, which will be sent to the phone number or email you provided during the initial issuing of your new card.

Older Visa Cards (Issued prior to 2024):

There are 2 things to know about 3D Secure with older cards:

  1. StatesCard supports 3D Secure. Any payments made using the card that require 3D Secure from the seller's perspective will go through with no issue.
  2. StatesCard does not support multi-factor authentication via 3D secure. This does not mean your payments will be rejected. It only means you will not be prompted to enter an SMS or verification code like you would with your standard bank issued credit/debit cards. This is because multi-factor authentication only works (and is required) for cards that are tied directly to a phone number - Which was not required with our previous Visa cards.
